Parent Education for PCR New Math Curriculum in 2016

On May 26, 2016 the LCUSD Governing Board voted to approve adoption of new math textbooks for grades K though 6 in the district elementary schools. The textbooks selected were:

• Everyday Mathematics: 4th Edition published by McGraw-Hill for grade K-5.
• Math In Focus: Singapore Math by Marshall Cavendish published by Houghton-Mifflin for 6th grade.

The Governing Board instituted the Elementary Math Adoption Oversight Committee (members listed here) led by Anais Wenn with elementary school principals, teacher, and parent representatives to aid and monitor the adoption of Everyday Mathematics in the District.

PCR parents are encouraged to share their thoughts on Everyday Mathematics in relation to their children with PCR Parent Representative Ajay Perumbeti <ajperumbeti@gmail.com>, to share with the committee.  The Math Oversight Committee minutes will be published on the LCUSD website:

Parent Quick Start Guide - This guide will help parents access the Everyday Mathematics Student Learning center including the Student Reference book.

Parent Grade Level Mastery Expectations - This shows the grade level student mastery expectations by section and quarter.

• Everyday Mathematics (Publisher's website) – McGraw-Hill Education's portal for information about the Everyday Math curriculum and supporting documents. Includes a program overview, links to research, and other information.
• Everyday Mathematics Resource and Information Center (UCSMP) – The University of Chicago's School Mathematics Project's portal for more information about Evereyday Math for teachers and parents.
• Everyday Mathematics Online Student Learning Center – Online component of Everyday Mathematics for students and parents to access at home. Per announcement at the first oversight committee meeting (see minutes above), the online component has not been opened to parents yet as teachers need time to learn how to use it first.
